Who is the Gauteng Infection Control Society (GICS), and what do we do?

GICS stands for the Gauteng Infection Control Society, which is an active, specialized chapter of FIDSSA (Federation of Infectious Diseases Societies of Southern Africa). Founded in 1975, GICS serves practicing infection control professionals, nurses, and healthcare workers dedicated to preventing healthcare-associated infections.

  • Core Mission: To promote infection prevention and control (IPC) standards, share topical research, and provide standardized training for practitioners across the region.
  • Study Days: GICS hosts regular study days (typically four times a year) that feature guest lecturers, international experts, and professional networking opportunities.
  • FIDSSA Connection: While GICS represents the Gauteng region, FIDSSA unites various societies (like ICSSA, SAASP, and SASPID) to collectively advance the management of infectious diseases across Southern Africa
